Using Books 24/7
Books24x7 is a provider of on-demand business, technical and engineering content containing thousands of digitized "best-in-class" books, book summaries, research reports and best practices. The Stout University Library subscribes to IT/Pro, one of the collections available in the Books 24/7 database array. The IT/Pro collection contains 6,772 titles covering both broad and deep coverage of information technology.
To Access Books 24/7:
- Start at the UW-Stout Library Home Page.
- Navigate to E-Books (left column)
- Click on Books 24/7.
- Click on Books 24/7(Electronic Books).
Getting Started/Finding Information
Note: Books 24/7 provides extensive Help. Click on the Help Tab located in the upper right of the screen.
Keyword Search:
- Start searching for content using the search box which is found on the top of most pages.
- Browse through new and popular titles found in the My Home Folders on the My Home page.
Advanced Search:
- For more complex searches, click on the Advanced Search link located in the top right of the screen.
- In Advanced Search, combinations of terms can be combined using Boolean operators (and, or, not), limiting by dates, sorting by relevance or date.
My Home Folders:
- Click the My Home tab at the top of the page. Personal Folders and the System Folders are in the left hand column. Note: Due to the restrictions to the Stout University Library's subscription, setting up personal accounts and alert services are not available to the Stout community.
- The What's New (default) folder displays a Collections tab which lists the titles newly released to the site.
- The Top Titles'folder displays the most frequently viewed titles on the site.
Viewing Titles
- Find the title to access.
- Open the item by clicking on the title or the cover graphic.
- From the Table of Contents page, click on the Chapter to view.
- When the chapter is displayed, the search bar and tool bar remain present.
- The chapter's section headings along with navigational aids are displayed in the left column.
Page Navigating After Displaying the Title:
- Search: The Search box is found at the top of every page.
- Browse Tools: Use these to navigate backward or forward in the list of books.
- Table of Contents: Return to the title list to make selections.
- Chapters: Click on the right or left arrows to move to the next or previous chapters. Use the +/- buttons to expand or hide the chapters.
- Search Hits: These are all of the chapters that contain search hits. Click on the right or left arrows to move to the next or previous chapter with a search hit.
- Assets of the Title: These icons denote the assets of the title such as an available feature or content type. Move the mouse over the question to view an icon legend that further explains each icon, ex: create bookmarks, etc.
- Previous and Next buttons: Displayed at the beginning and end of the title's content page, use the "Prev" and "Next" buttons to move to the previous or next section.
Downloading/PrintingDownloading and Direct printing are not allowed due to licensing agreements with publishers. Printing an entire book violates copyright laws and therefore is prohibited.
