About the Educational Materials Center (EMC)

The Educational Materials Center (EMC) is designed to support UW-Stout's teacher education programs by providing examples of learning resources typically used at the Pre K-12 levels of instruction. Stout's teacher education programs are: Art Education, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Guidance and Counseling, Marketing and Business Education, School Psychology, Science Education, Special Education, and Technology Education.

Collections

Text Collection

This collection houses examples of text materials produced by commercial publishers. Texts acquired for this collection are within Stout's teacher education areas. Included also are activity materials which can be used by a student.

Juvenile Collection

This collection houses children's literature and examples of audiovisual material suitable for individuals or class use in the Pre K-5 setting.

Young Adult Collection

This collection has young adult literature and examples of audiovisual material suitable for individuals or class use for grades 6-12.  Please note that items in the Young Adult Collection have a 28-day checkout period.

Curriculum Guides Collection

This collection is composed of sample curricula from school districts, state departments of instruction, federal agencies and commercial publishers.

Computer Software

This collection contains educational computer software and CD-ROM. Most CD-ROMS are MAC/WINDOWS format.

Puppets

A variety of hand puppets are available in play pens in the EMC.

Student Created Units

Teaching units created by Stout students in the Business and Marketing Education program are available for in-library-use only.

This is a display of various juvenile magazines. Titles currently held are listed below. The library retains five years of back issues.
