[hidetoc]Universal Borrowing (UB) is a library service that allows UW-Stout students and faculty/staff to check out books from other UW System libraries.
Due to library system upgrades, Universal Borrowing through the Stout Library Catalog is not available from July 14-August 15.
Instead, use BadgerCat to do your searching and requesting.
Step 1- Start at Library Home Page
Library Home Page (http://www.uwstout.edu/lib)
Connect to BadgerCat.
Step 2 - In BadgerCat Database:

Select BadgerCat from drop down menu
Also select University of Wisconsin Libraries from drop down menu
Enter your search
Step 3 - Review Results and Select a Title
From the results list, choose an item. Click on that item's link to Libraries: University of Wisconsin Libraries
Step 4 - Request the Item
On the screen, along with the item's information, will be a list of the UW Libraries that own the item. To request the item from another library, click on: Request from Non UW Library.
Yes, it seems counter-intuitive, BUT by clicking on this, you will be taken to the Interlibrary Loan form which will automatically be filled in with the item's information needed for the request!
As interlibrary loan services are only available to Stout students, faculty and staff, the next step will be an authentication process.
Step 5 - Logon to Illiad

Login to Illiad, the interlibrary loan system with your 7-digit Stout ID number and last name.
Click Logon to Illiad.
Step 6 - Complete the Interlibrary Loan Form
The request form will automatically be filled in with the item's information.
Complete the form.
Comments:
Specifiy you are a DE student and list specific course number.
One volume of a set: If your title has more than one volume, you will need to complete a separate request for each volume. Indicate in the Comment box which volume you are requesting.
Pick Up Library: The item must be picked up at the UW-Stout University Library Circulation Desk.
Click Submit Request.
If your request was not completed correctly, you will need to review the information entered for accuracy and click Submit again. If you still experience problems, call the Circulation Desk at (715) 232-1215 or Josh Steans at (715) 232-1112 (7:30-4:30).
You will be notified when the item arrives in the Library via your Stout email account.
Step 8 - Check the Status of the Request
Check to see that your request actually was completed.
After submitting, the Illiad Main Menu appears. Under the Review Requests section, click on View/Modify Outstanding Requests.
Your personal library information will display. If the information on your item requested does not appear, try the request again. If still unsuccessful, either call the Circulation Desk at (715) 232-1215 or Josh Steans at (715) 232-1112 (7:30-4:30) or use one of the following forms:
- Check-out periods are:
- Books (most items)-28 days for students/Semester loan for Faculty/Staff
- Books (Browsing/EMC young adult)) - 28 days
- Videos and EMC (IMC) - 14 days
- You will be notified via your UW-Stout email account when your item arrives in the library where you can pick it up at the circulation desk.
- Be prompt in picking up items, as they are retained only 10 DAYS at the Desk.
- A book that has a 28-day check-out can be renewed once if there are no other requests for it.
- Fines and bills will be applied based on the lending libraries' policies, not on the UW-Stout overdue policy.
